Start with the requirement
An upgrade makes sense when a documented business requirement cannot be met appropriately by the current setup and the value of resolving that constraint justifies the ongoing cost. Revenue alone is not a complete decision rule. Write down the workflow that is failing, the commercial effect and the capability a different plan must provide.
Separate a platform limit from an implementation problem
Slow templates, inconsistent product data and unclear navigation are not automatically reasons to change plans. First establish whether the constraint comes from the subscription, an app, an integration or the way the storefront was built. A targeted improvement may remove the problem without a broader change.
Build a requirements matrix
For each requirement, record the customer or operational task, the current limitation, the proposed solution and the person responsible for validating it. Examples include wholesale purchasing rules, checkout requirements, multiple operating teams and integrations. Check each requirement against Shopify’s current plan documentation and the actual account configuration.
Compare the full operating cost
Include the subscription, app changes, integration maintenance, implementation work and the time your team needs to operate the new setup. Estimate the cost of keeping the current system as well. Use a range when the evidence is uncertain rather than presenting a precise return on investment that the data cannot support.
Validate before committing
Use a representative workflow to test the recommendation. Ask whether it handles real catalogue complexity, exceptions and ownership after launch. Confirm current pricing and contractual details directly with Shopify before making a commitment.
A useful decision
The output should be a documented recommendation: stay and improve, upgrade for an identified requirement, or investigate further. Each option needs assumptions, dependencies and a named next action. VIA77 can assess that decision alongside the broader commerce architecture.

Compare the specific requirement
| Requirement | Decision to validate |
|---|---|
| B2B selling | Available across Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus. Compare catalogue limits, company assignments and payment terms. |
| Advanced B2B catalogues | Plus supports unlimited catalogues and direct catalogue assignment to companies. Confirm the workflow against current documentation. |
| Checkout customisation | Availability depends on the extension and checkout surface. Confirm plan requirements before promising a custom flow. |
| Slow storefront | Investigate assets, theme code and apps before treating a subscription upgrade as the fix. |
